What Options Exist for Television Service Besides Cable and Satellite

If you are looking for television service but are finding both cable and satellite providers are far too expensive, you are not alone. In fact, millions of individuals look for other ways to obtain television programming, as it is cheaper to do this in other methods. Just because you don’t want to spend a hundred dollars or more on television service doesn’t mean you should have to go without the entertainment in your home. Thankfully, you can receive services without spending much, if any, amount of money on services.

Antenna

With an antenna connected to your television you are able to receive local broadcasts stations. This generally includes NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX and other stations. This does depend on the broadcast stations located near you,but it gives you some decent options without having to spend any money on monthly service charges. Just remember though, if you have an older, analog based television, you do need a digital converter box. You can buy one of these for $40 or so and with the connected equipment you watch broadcast content on your analog television.

Streaming Services

There are plenty of streaming services now available, as long as you have an Internet connection. The most popular service is Netflix, as this allows you to watch thousands of movies and television shows, all for a low monthly fee (the streaming only service is $8.99). You can also opt into free services, such as Hulu, which allows you to watch a selection of television stations and content. If you want a larger listing of content there is a monthly fee, but this is even less than the Netflix option. Other broadcast stations, such as NBC, ABC, FOX and some cable stations, including Comedy Central, stream full episodes online the following day. Many sports stations also stream content directly online for important games, including CBS, ESPN and others.

Pay Per Download

You might only have one or two favorite programs you regularly stay up to date with, and if this is the case there is no real reason why you should actually pay for cable or satellite service for a single show. Instead, you can download each episode shortly after it airs through content providers including iTunes and Google Play, and this should allow you to have the episode to watch whenever you desire, in order a short period of time and you can take the episodes with you.
